How much does a business website cost in the UK?
"How much does a website cost?" is the question every business owner asks first, and the honest answer is: it depends on what you need the website to do. Two websites that look similar on the surface can be completely different projects underneath.
What drives the price
- Size: a five-page brochure site is a different job from a fifty-page site with service and location pages.
- Design: a bespoke design built around your brand takes more work than adapting an off-the-shelf theme.
- Functionality: booking systems, quote calculators, memberships and online shops all add scope.
- Content: who writes the copy and sources the photography matters.
- SEO: a site planned for search from the start (structure, metadata, schema, redirects) takes more planning than a site that is only designed to look good.
- Ongoing care: hosting, updates, security and support.
How to compare quotes
Ask each supplier what is actually included: number of pages, revisions, SEO setup, mobile testing, training, and who owns the finished website. A cheap quote that leaves out half of that list is not cheaper.
Think in terms of return
A website is an investment. If it brings in even a few extra qualified enquiries each month, the question becomes what those customers are worth to you, not what the build cost.
